A Note From Me About Abundance
I grew up with what’s called a scarcity mindset. Although I didn’t grow up in poverty, there seemed to be this theme running through my family of never enough. This mindset stayed with me like a disease I didn’t know existed well into my adult years.
For years, that type of thinking colored my world of leading a nonprofit organization. Afterall, nonprofits seem to be experts at modeling the scarcity mindset in survival mode… “There are never enough resources for us to…” or “We’re in desperate need of more….” Fill in the blank. Inevitably, it leads to begging, manipulation, competitiveness, and doing whatever you can for that next dollar.
But I’ve discovered another way.
Gratitude. As it turns out, the more I practice gratitude for what I have, the more I seem to have. We take the practice of gratitude very seriously at Traffick911—it’s one of our internal guiding principles as an organization. We begin each week with acts of gratitude as a staff and believe it is a key to unlocking an abundance mindset—where the possibilities are limitless and dreaming flourishes. If I’m honest, this is still something I’m learning and I use the phrase ‘practice of gratitude’ very intentionally.
What I’ve come to discover is that God cares more about the survivors we serve than I ever could and is intensely passionate about providing our every need so that we can serve them to the fullest. This is abundance.
As I sit here and write this to you, I just got to say yes to one of our Voice & Choice Advocates serving a family who got an eviction notice this week and was to be evicted today. The parents have had some health setbacks and got behind on rent. We were able to pay their balance off today and keep their family home for the holidays.
You are a part of this freedom community and I got to say ‘yes’ today because of you.
So, on the last few days of 2022, if you haven’t made your year-end contribution yet, I am asking for your financial support. Not from a place of lack or scarcity, but from a place of authentic gratitude and faith for the future.
Help us continue to say yes in 2023—make your year-end tax-deductible donation now.
In faith,
