Everyone can do something!

Do you remember the first time you heard about child sex trafficking?

I do. I remember feeling devastated, confused, and overwhelmed with the urge to do something about it but having no idea where to start. After diving head first into this work, I’m here to tell you that everyone can do something. You don’t have to be an expert or an Advocate; you can bring hope in so many different ways.

As we’ve been working through our end-of-year campaign, I am often reminded of Allie.*

Allie was recovered by law enforcement when she was just 15 years old. She was trafficked for six months. After being recovered, she needed a place to live and work through the trauma she experienced. Traffick911 was able to get Allie into the housing and counseling she needed, but she has a long road ahead. Her Advocate meets with her weekly, and during their last visit, she said:

“I think I’m a success story. I didn’t understand what hope was. But I think I have it now.”

Here are some ways you can help this season:

  • Share our social media posts and emails. You’ll often hear me say, “Now that you know, you have a responsibility to share.” Sharing legitimate and factual information about trafficking is critical as our communities learn about this issue.

  • Sign up for our anti-trafficking orientation happening this Thursday! It’s our last one of the year and will give you the tools and resources to join the fight and volunteer!

  • Join us for Human Trafficking Awareness Month in January, where we will focus on the other side of the spectrum: demand. It’s critical that we understand why trafficking happens and how the demand for sex with children will prevent future victims.

Experiencing the resiliency of each of these youth is something that changes how we see the world. I believe that is why you are here with us, friend. I believe you are connected with Traffick911 for a purpose and a reason. Thank you for your continued support.
